Many people feel overwhelmed and nervous when they have to restore a tooth with endodontic therapy, which is also known as root canal therapy. If you’re one of these people, Dr. Olaitan Okediji-Registe and our dental team are happy to help you. Usually, those feelings come from not knowing the process involved with endodontic therapy or from not knowing what endodontic therapy is. So, to help you, we would like to share some information.
Endodontic treatment is necessary to restore and save a tooth that has been extremely infected or decayed. During the treatment, Dr. Olaitan Okediji-Registe will remove the nerve and pulp of the tooth because it will prevent infections to the surrounding tissues and it will prevent abscesses. Then, they will clean and seal the tooth with a dental filling or a dental crown.
Sadly, root canal treatment has the reputation for being painful. However, many don’t know that the treatment isn’t as painful as they think. In fact, the treatment is less painful than the pain experienced before the treatment and it is no more painful than a dental filling treatment.
After the treatment, the tooth will most likely be a bit sensitive for a few days. You can relieve the discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain medication. Oftentimes, you can return to your normal activities the next day. Until then, it’s best to recuperate.
As you can see, root canal therapy is a beneficial way of restoring your oral health. So, please don’t be scared or nervous. Our dental team will take great care of you.
